What is the Model Context Protocol (MCP)?

MCP is to Language Models what USB ports are to computers. It is an open and secure standard that allows an AI model to connect in a standardized way to any external data source or application.

Instead of building expensive ad-hoc API integrations and fragile plugins for each platform (Salesforce, SAP, Notion, Cord), you expose an “MCP Server”.

Claude (or any other compatible agent) connects to this server and instantly discovers a catalog of “Tools” and “Resources” it can use.

  2. check_client_credit: Before authorizing a sale, the AI can check in milliseconds if the client has overdue invoices or has exceeded their authorized credit line.
  3. update_price_list (Mass Update): Tasks that would take an operator hours in Excel (“Increase the price of the ‘Hardware’ category by 5% for all Tier 2 clients”), Claude executes through MCP in seconds.

Security in the MCP Ecosystem

The major concern of CFOs and CTOs when giving “hands” to AI is security. What happens if the model “hallucinates” and deletes a price list or sends an invoice with a 90% discount?

When Claude attempts to execute the send_quote_to_client tool, the MCP Server intercepts the action and returns an authorization request. In the graphical interface (whether in Cord or in Claude’s chat window), the human user sees exactly what action is going to be executed (the JSON payload) and must explicitly press “Approve”.

In this way, the AI acts as a hyper-efficient copilot that drafts, prepares, and assembles all the heavy lifting, but the final decision always requires a human signature.
